Traceability in the waste management chain in Russia
The circular economy is based on closed supply chains. The ultimate goal is to preserve the value of products consumed and used by consumers, with the possibility of reducing the environmental impact on the entire supply chain.
According to statistics for the last three years, the volume of oil and fat waste generated in Moscow was 14500 tons/year. Total volume of exported biomass from fat and oil waste to EU countries for biodiesel production is 38400 tons/year. Enormous demand for biomass from Russia for biodiesel production in EU countries, led to a sharp increase in the cost of procurement of oil and fat waste, a large number of companies engaged in unfair competition and gray market procurement of oil and fat waste. Given the lack of interest in the movement and control of oil and fat waste from the government, much of the market remains in the shadows.
However, with a joint competent approach of government and business, the model of production and implementation of biodiesel from oil and fat waste for the needs of cities in Russia, can lead to positive results and become one of the results of the long-term strategy of low-carbon development of Russia.
ISCC certification highlights the following supply chain participants:
primary producers, certification is not required (farms, plantations, place of origin of waste and residues);
primary collection sites;
converters (output intermediates or final fuel);
merchants selling raw materials / intermediate products or final fuel.
